The scream brought the entire mall to a standstill.
An elegant girl was about to step onto the escalator in a long white dress.
Her mother was walking ahead, talking on the phone.
No one was looking at the hem of her dress.
No one saw how the fabric began to get caught between the steps.
Only a poor boy saw it.
He ran.
He grabbed her arm.
He pulled her back.
The girl screamed.
The mother turned around, furious.
“Security! That boy touched her!”
But then a terrible sound was heard.
The fabric of the dress got caught.
The escalator pulled hard.
Everyone froze.
The boy was breathing heavily.
And he said:
“I didn’t mean to touch her…”
